Reason for concern

DRIVER'S AIRBAG MAY DEPLOY

Reason for recall

The steering column has no electrical connection to ground other than the spiral cable. In the event that the spiral cable is damaged the airbag warning light will illuminate. If the customer ignores the warning light and continues to drive for extended periods electrostatic charge may be discharged through the electrical circuit of the drivers airbag. In an extreme case this discharge could be sufficient to trigger an unintended deployment of the driver airbag.

Remedy

Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and fit a slip ring to the steering column on all potentially affected vehicles.
